Oliver studied a conjoint degree of Law and Arts majoring in history and politics from the University of Otago.

His interest in policy and research led him to work as a Policy Intern at Federated Farmers. His work focussed on Resource Management Act reform, as well as Māori rights and interests in freshwater. His role honed his skills in research and drafting reports. Outside of work, Oliver is interested in music and sports. He also enjoys skiing.

Oliver leaned into his interest in tort and evidence law when he decided to work in litigation. Since joining Grimshaw & Co, he has assisted in interlocutory hearings and trial preparations through discovery and creating bundles of documents.
