On 14 October Justices Wylie and Venning provided an update on the Christchurch Earthquake list. The key points are:

1. There are 227 active cases on the EQ List (out of 437 cases filed);

2. 176 cases have been discontinued/settled and 34 cases have been disposed of by judicial decision.

Justice Venning also indicated that the Court is likely to implement a number of the case management practises from the EQ list more widely, including the direction of early exchange of experts' reports (on a without prejudice basis) and the that the parties' experts undertake a joint site visit/report.  These directions are likely to be introduced in other civil litigation proceedings, including in the Auckland building defect list.
