Leaky home liability

10 Jan 11

Tauranga's seniors' advocacy organisation, CAT, is urging Tauranga City Council to go out to public consultation on the Government's plan that 25 per cent of costs to fix leaky homes should be met by local authorities.

CAT chairman Leo Mangos said this year's consultation would not be that the council had backed the plan, but rather the $250,000 in the 2011-12 draft budget.

He said ratepayers who did not have leaky homes were being forced to pay for "long-term systemic failures".
