Leaky building cost soars

The exposure by Auckland ratepayers to leaky buildings has jumped in one year from $221 million to $469 million.

A review of how the former Auckland councils accounted for leaky homes has found they had difficulties estimating claims and potential claims.

Once a consistent approach was used, the councils produced a much more detailed assessment, resulting in the estimated cost of leaky home repairs more than doubling.
