Government Scheme

10 Jun 10

The Government recently announced a proposed scheme which it believes will assist those parties embroiled in the leaky homes saga. The scheme is apparently to start sometime next year.

At this stage, we simply do not have enough information to make any meaningful comment about it.  One thing we can say, however, is that it appears likely that you will have to have registered with the Weathertight Homes Resolution Service ("WHRS") to be eligible for any compensation that may be offered.  So we recommend that anyone who has a dwelling that is less than 10 years old and has not yet registered with the WHRS should do so straight away.

However, the fact that you have registered with the WHRS will be noted on your LIM, so any person searching your property file with the council will be aware that your property is a leaky home. No doubt you will consider this issue when deciding whether or not to register with the WHRS.
