In 2002 Paul Grimshaw and partners began acting for leaky home owners and bodies corporate at the Auckland law firm Cairns Slane. In 2005 they established a new firm, Grimshaw & Co, to provide specialist services to leaky home owners and insurance clients.
Grimshaw & Co quickly developed a reputation as the market leader in leaky home cases. The firm acted for a large number of bodies corporate and individual home owners with claims before the Weathertight Homes Tribunal, District Court and High Court. Grimshaw & Co acted on the leading leaky building cases including the Sunset Terraces, Byron Avenue and Spencer on Byron claims which proceeded to the Supreme Court and became important legal precedents.
The firm also continued to work across other practice areas. It is well known for its advice to body corporate clients and focus on all areas of construction litigation. It attracted lawyers with expertise in insurance, employment and civil litigation. After the Christchurch earthquakes Grimshaw & Co acted quickly to provide advice and representation to property owners.
Today Grimshaw & Co is a full service litigation firm, with offices in Auckland and Christchurch, and a team of four partners and over 20 lawyers providing legal advice and dispute resolution services in eight specialist practice areas. As the firm has grown our commitment to clients has remained the same – to provide high quality legal services with skill, integrity and dedication.
